Icelandic Horse breeding evaluations are one of the most extensive measurement systems for breeding quality for any horse breed. This is a fabulous chance to see high quality breeding horses from both the United States and Canada show the future of the Icelandic Horse in North America. Landsmót in Iceland!

Join us in Iceland for a week long icelandic horse competition to watch the best of the best horses and riders compete!

The National Icelandic Horse Competition, known to Icelanders as the “Landsmót” is the largest outdoor sporting event in Iceland showcasing Iceland’s best horses and riders.

The main theme of the event is an all Icelandic Riding Horse Competition where riders of all ages and their horses compete in an event composed of showing all five gaits of the Icelandic horse,  Tölt, trot, walk, gallop and Pace.  The parallel theme is a competition and show of breeding horses, were the best stallions and breeding mares are shown and rated.   As Tölt is the most treasured gait of the Icelandic horse, the highlight of the Landsmot is always the Tölt Competition where the best Tölt horses and their riders compete for the Landsmot Tölt Champion Title.

Our four day program is designed for kids from 7-14 years old who are interested in horses and horsemanship. 

Day camp will run from 9 AM to 3PM. Each camper will have at least one riding lesson a day in group lesson format based on skill level. Off the horse the campers will be learning about horse care, take part in farm activities, do horse themed fun arts and crafts activities, watch demos of liberty work, bond with the farm horses and spend time in the beautiful outdoors of Newberg!

Total cost is $450.

Knapamerki 1-3 Clinic and Exam at Alfadans

In this clinic we will go over the riding techniques and theory covered in Level 1-3 of the Knapamerki system. Explore both practical and theoretical equine knowledge and skills through this program using classical principles developed by Holar University College. Use the levels as goals to improve your riding and training from the ground up. This two day clinic will prepare riders to take the exams for level 1-3 on August 18th, however the exam is not required and can be substituted with further instruction. Additionally please be aware that only those who have completed Levels 1 and 2 will be allowed to take the Level 3 exam. The exam judge will be Carrie Brandt of Taktur Icelandics and the clinician will be our own Caeli Cavanagh.

Clinic price is $500. Non refundable deposit of $100 due upon registration.

NWIHC Knapamerki Clinic for Kids

This clinic will be tailored toward youth riders (18 and under) interested in taking the Level 1 Knapamerki exam. The Knapamerki system is a systematic, leveled program that encourages riders to develop fundamental horsemanship knowledge and skills that serves riders of all ages throughout their career. Participants must also be a member of the Northwest Icelandic Horse Club to take part. Clinic and testing location will be at Alfadans Equestrian Arts.

Come for a four day horsemanship camp with twice daily lessons, arts and crafts and lots of fun! One lesson a day will be a private lesson and one will be a group lesson on a fun topic, like working equitation, liberty work and bridleless riding! Between rides we will have fun with crafts like jewelry making, picture frame making and more! Horse rental is available, first come first serve.

Liberty Clinic at Alfadans

This clinic will explore how to use liberty training to develop your communication system, build trust and deepen your bond with your horse. We will seek to learn to use liberty exercises to improve our horses confidence, increase their motivation and have our horses move freely with us. The clinic will include a daily private lesson, group lesson, lectures and demonstrations and will put emphasis on the use of liberty to improve our horses mental balance and ability to learn. The clinician will be our own Caeli Cavanagh (FT Association member, FEIF Trainer Level 3) who has performed both in the US and in Iceland and is the trainer of the International Liberty Horse Association 2020 High Point Pro Division Horse Soldis from Solheimar. Space is limited. Horse rental available, first come first serve.

Working Equitation Clinic at Alfadans

Come and learn about the amazing sport of Working Equitation with Alfadans Trainer Alexandra Venable (FEIF Trainer Level 1). Alex was third place nationally and first place regionally in her division in working equitation and loves sharing her knowledge of working equitation with other gaited horse owners! Often called “dressage on steroids” this spot involves speed, grace, maneuverability and communication between horse and rider. Come to this clinic to learn more about this fast growing sport. On Saturday the clinic will cover basic maneuvers you will need for the obstacles in the morning and in the afternoon we will work on how the obstacles should be executed. Sunday we will start to put more of the obstacles together to create a course and start to learn how to make course lines. Lectures will cover what working equitation is and some of the important rules you should know before going to a WE competition.

This clinic will explore how to use lunging to improve the topline, balance, and conditioning of our horses that is integral to both health and quality gaits. We will explore different lunging types and methods as well how to use poles and jumps to enhance the effectiveness of a lunging session. There will be private and group lessons, theory lectures as well as demonstrations. Learn how to become your horse's personal physical therapist!
